About Heart Rate Reserve Training

The Karvonen method, also known as heart rate reserve (HRR), provides a more personalized approach to calculating training zones. It takes into account both your maximum heart rate and your resting heart rate, resulting in more accurate target zones.

Heart rate reserve is calculated by subtracting your resting heart rate from your maximum heart rate. This represents the range of heart rate available for exercise - the "reserve" that you can use during training.

Training zones based on HRR are expressed as percentages of your heart rate reserve plus your resting heart rate. This method is generally considered more accurate than simple percentages of maximum heart rate, especially for individuals with different fitness levels.
